When was this ammo made, 30-06?

#1

I just bought a crate with two cans of 30-06 M2, lot nr 23078. What year were these made?

The can:

And the crate:

1944 or 1945

Ray is correct.
In the lists I have, LOT 23000 was made in 1944 and LOT 23105 is the lowest LOT I found so far for 1945
so it is somewhere in between.

Note that the ammunition made then has CORROSIVE PRIMERS.

Not a concern for collectors, but if fired, it is essential to clean the rifle promptly and properly or it will severely rust the bore in a matter of days. Back when everyone knew this, it was not a big deal and properly cleaned rifles still have great bores. However, many people do not know this, and it would be a shame to ruin a nice gun by simply not cleaning it properly and promptly.

The first lot of Winchester made .30-06 Ball that had non-corrosive primers was lot 203201 in August 1951. If you do not have the box to know the lot number, treat all WRA with dates 51 or earlier as corrosive.

Thanks for your help.

I’m aware of the corrosive primers, but this will not be shot. The can’s are in very nice condition, and will be kept in my collection.
