I have a 45 70 with a wooden projectile and the same in a 38 40. Any info on these?

bdgreen is right about a photo helping.
The most common wood bullet in those case types is a shot loading.
The wood may shrink or have shrunk, so if you shake or even pull on them them be sure to hold them into the case, because if they come out, you will never get them back.
I was wondering why those BB’s never went back inside the wooden cup. That makes sense, the cup becomes smaller. Approximately, when did they stop using wood?
