WW1 Artillery ammunition


There are a number of good images of cartridge case manufacturing at the Washington Navy Yard during WW1 on this site, along with many on heavy gun manufacture, machine gun tests, etc. Most I had not seen before.
Here is one that appears to be a USN 3"/50 cartridge case draw set.

I was lucky to be stationed at the Navy Yard for a short time during the Viet Nam War. They had 6 x 6 hunks of steel set up outside that showed what happened when a large caliber naval gun’s projectile hit it. Like a knife threw butter it went into 6,8 inches of steel.
